WordPress is by far the world’s most popular CMS. Accounting for nearly 15% of Alexa’s “top 1 million websites,” it just works, well. However, with such popularity comes a lot of tweaks, plugins, and themes. And by a lot, I mean too much to count. There are well over 19,000 WP plugins that have been downloaded over 300 million times. Don’t even get me started on the themes and numerous tweaks.
But with so much customization available to the public, how does one figure out which are the most popular, or essential? Juliana Payson of InMotion Hosting decided to do just that. She put together an infographic outlining the “top tweaks that webmasters were applying to their WordPress CMS (by industry), to save you the build time when it comes to seeing what they recommend.” She also gathered information from writers of different web industries and curated the data in a spreadsheet viewable here.
So if you’re curious as to what’s popular on WordPress, take a look at the infograph below. If you’d like to make a suggestion to the list, you can do so here. Payson is open to everyone’s comments and suggestions, and will look out for any significant changes. In other words, consider this your new up-to-date list on the WordPress essentials!
