If you don’t keep a diary, why not? Too much hassle remembering to write in it every day? Not sure where you should start? If you’re anything like me, you have more Mac and iOS text editing apps than you care to admit — but even so, knowing where to begin a diary and how to format it is a challenge. Sometimes, an app which does one thing well is called for.
That’s where Journalized comes in. Whilst Journalized isn’t the only app in the iOS diary space, it’s the newest entrant in the field and is exceedingly well designed. First impressions of the app are great: the icon is gorgeous — and so is the interface.
Journalized is an iPhone app which makes keeping a journal of your life simple. Choose a date and start writing — that’s it. It’s possible to embed images and videos in your diary, too. My favourite feature of the app (besides how great it looks) is the lack of settings. Whilst I’m sure there will be features added in the future which could well require the need for options, right now using Journalized is a pure experience. The Project Dent website explains:
Type as much as you need to sum up a memory. Take photos and videos, or add them from your library. Change the entry’s date and time, to think back and write about stuff that happened earlier.
Of course, Journalized isn’t perfect. There’s no way currently to back up your saved journal entries, so if your phone gets lost or damaged, that’s the end of your diary. I’ve spoken to Journalized’s developer about this and it’s one of the features highest up the list to be added in an update. There are a few parts of the UI which I believe could be streamlined — but now I’m really looking for quibbles. All in all, Journalized 1.0 is a great release, with a tasteful UI and handsome feature set which does one thing well: keeping a diary is as easy as launching an app.
